Although powder coating has changed over the years, it is a modern technology for adding finishes to components. It is a popular way to add a protective finish to items, but can be used for decorative purposes too! Traditionally it has been used on metal parts but modern techniques now allow the process to be used on non-metallic items too!
Why Do They Use Power Coating?
When you’re making something, or you wish to repair something then it stands to reason that you’re going to want it to be a job well done. Although there are other coating options available, powder coating is popular because it allows a thick layer to be added at a time – which can be tricky with other methods such as solvent-based paint which might drip or run. Repairing powder coating allows an even later to be added across the whole of the part you are fixing – not only to give a smooth finish but to ensure that the whole part is covered and is well protected.
From a manufacturing point of view, one of the biggest benefits of powder coating is how quickly parts are usable once they have been subject to this treatment – great for a production line where items may need to quickly move onto the next step of the production process. Thanks to Ultra Violet curings, powder coating can now be used on non-metals such as plastic and MDF; as this process allows items to be treated without the need to be heat treated.
