Our children will build the world of tomorrow, so for that reason its important for parents to raise an environmentally conscious child. I have teamed up with a private boys’ school in London to share some advice on where to start.
Explore the Great Outdoors
It would be wise to help your child find a love and sense of respect for the environment by encouraging them to spend plenty of time in the great outdoors. Doing so will give your child more of a motive to try and help preserve it. So, go for lots of walks in the woods, play in the garden, take them camping, or hunt fossils at the coast. Your options are endless when it comes to outdoor activities. Help your child understand why it’s important to breathe in clean air and why you shouldn’t litter.

Teach Them About Climate Change
Your child won’t make efforts to protect the environment if they don’t understand how their actions might affect it. With that said, be sure to talk to them about climate change and perhaps consider watching some TV shows and documentaries about it to heighten their learning. Explain to them why it’s important to recycle your waste and switch the lights off when you’re done in a room.
Be a Good Role Model
Your child is more likely to copy your actions, rather than just listening to your words, so try and be a good role model by demonstrating how you can do you bit to protect the environment. Dispose of your recycling correctly, upcycle old items and unplug your devices once your finished charging them. As you do these things, reiterate to your child why to further heighten their understanding. Help them learn that energy and water are precious resources that we should try not to waste.
By making a few changes around the house and introducing topics of like global warming into your family conversations, your child will eventually pick up some positive habits.
