Rising Popularity of Social Media Influencers – Whether you use the internet purely for entertainment or you have a business that you want to promote online, you will have come across social media influencers. Social media has grown in popularity over recent years – from battling it out for a place in someones Top 8 friends list on MySpace to international brands now using Instagram to reach their audience, the way we use social media platforms has changed – and it’s a positive for businesses.
Rising Popularity of Social Media Influencers
People Creating Their Own Story
Over recent months we have seen a massive increase in the number of people using TikTok as their social media platform of choice. Their transition video software became extremely popular and as such Instagram copied the idea with Reels. The idea behind these features is to allow the creators that use the platforms to become more creative – with transition videos, face filter effects and various music/voice-over choices some of the videos created have been phenomenal.
This has allowed those that want to get their message out there to do so in a way that suits them – and attracts the attention of an interested audience! Julie Story for example left her job as a branding expert and the self-confessed DIY enthusiast set herself up online showing people various DIY tips and tricks, alongside some fantastic tutorials -she now has over 300,000 followers on TikTok alone!

Businesses Using It For Promotion
It isn’t individuals that have become interested in social media, it’s now a solid part of any companies marketing and promotion plans. The thing with social media is that it allows brands to be far more in charge of the message they are putting out there. By working with influencers on marketing campaigns they get a say in what is being talked about on social media with regards to their company – something any company will be keen to do. Brands are able to act quickly and adapt their social media campaigns to match public events or trends – something that advertising via print or TV did not allow them to do quick enough – hosting virtual events and social media campaigns is a great way to make this happen.
Reaching A Target Audience
One fantastic example of brands keeping up with the news and using social media to their advantage was last night. Last night we saw an outage that caused Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp to be out of action for a couple of hours. These platforms being unusable meant that more people turned to Twitter to communicate with their friends; something which plenty of savvy brands clicked onto!
We saw brands such as Pretty Little Thing, Boohoo and McDonalds immediately jump onto the platform and offering competitions and giveaways for people that interacted with them via Twitter, a really clever move seeing as we know that more people would have been using Twitter than normal for a Monday evening.
Social media gives businesses the power to reach the right audience and make them smile by putting out the right content in a timely manner. This keeping up with trends helps to keep audiences interested in what is being said online, which in turn helps the power of social media influence continue to grow and so the cycle continues.
