March is the month that we can officially say Spring is here. The official end of winter might be a few weeks off but if you’re anything like us you’re already counting down. The nights are already drawing out so the changing of the clocks alongside the start of Spring definitely mean warmer and longer days for us all. Although we should be looking after ourselves all year around, here are some ways to take better care of yourself this Spring and how you can benefit from looking after yourself a little better.
Set Boundaries
Although it can be a hard thing to do consistently, setting boundaries is a great way to make sure that you’re looking after yourself as much as possible. Of course, the boundaries that you need to set will vary as they do from person to person, but consider what you need and set boundaries that match this. This could be to do with how many hours you want to do at work, or how often you want to see someone you are dating what tasks you can help a friend with or how late at night you stay up. Setting some rules on what you need, ensuring these are communicated to others and doing what you can to stick to them can help you feel good.
Work Through Longterm Issues
Although it is all well and good doing what you can to feel good however if you have any practical issues that are worrying you then no amount of self-care is going to make these go away. So if you have money worries, a leaking pipe at home, some worries at work or something else altogether rather than ignoring these or trying to brush them under the carpet; do what you can to tackle these and get them under control. It can be scary to take the first step into get these sorted, especially if you need to open up to others however generally it works out best to get on the first step to getting these under control.
Seek Help & Support
With all the best will in the world, it isn’t always possible to get yourself feeling good and on track. Mental health issues are a genuine concern and not something that you should brush under the carpet or try to deal with alone, especially if you’re feeling unable to cope. In these scenarios then reaching out and speaking to a professional for their help and advice is really important. This could be via a call to your own GP or by looking up some private psychiatry services that you feel happy with. Private physiatry often helps as it means you get practical help and support from therapy sessions to virtual chats with a professional, all of which can help you on your path to feeling great this Spring
Communicate With Loved Ones
As much as professional services help, having a support network is important too! Being open and honest to those close with you about how you are feeling, what you are going through and what they might be able to do is really helpful. This doesn’t have to be physical people, there are plenty of ways to chat to people virtually these days too – if there is one thing the last few years have taught us it is that keeping in touch with people virtually really helps. So, find some support with friends and family – even if it is only to have a distraction from how you are feeling every now and then.
2022 is definitely a year for taking care of yourself, so now that the better weather is here & we’ll soon get to enjoy some warmth and the feeling of sunshine on our skin use this for motivation for feeling great this Spring and setting yourself up for an amazing summer – and enjoy time with your loved ones.
