Moving home is the start of an exciting new adventure and there is lots to look forward to. However, before you can start your next chapter you need to get all of your goods and belongings to your new home – and you’ll, of course, want to make sure they get there in one piece. Here is some advice on protecting your items when you move home.

Speak to the Company You’re Working With

If you’re working with a man and a van service then speak to them about what you need and the items in particular that you need to ensure are super protected – for example, any valuables you have or any delicate items.  Different man and van and home removal companies will have different things that they offer as standard, so when you’re shopping around and comparing prices you should ensure that you are comparing like for like. for example, do they offer covers for sofas and mattresses to stop them from getting scuffed in the moving process? These aren’t always a necessity but it is worth knowing in advance whether they’ll be provided.

Pack Up Your Goods Securely

When you’re packing up your own boxes of stuff it is a good idea to take your time and ensure that everything is packed as neatly and securely as possible. It’s easy to grow tiresome of the packing process and get tempted to just throw everything in boxes and think that you’ll sort it out properly when you unpack at the other end. However, if you do this then items inside the boxes can get damaged and boxes are stacked and moved around. Instead, it is worth investing in packing materials and placing items well protected into boxes properly so that you can be sure they have the best possible chance of surviving the moving journey. Wrapping up goods inside towels and bedding helps to protect them without the need to spend out extra on packing materials too; which saves you both money and space  – win, win!

Only Take What You Need

When you’re getting ready to move house it is a great opportunity to use it as an excuse to declutter and have a good sort out. After all, you don’t want to pay to move items that you don’t need or go through the hassle of packing things up that you are just going to throw away when you get to the other end. Instead, when you are going through the process of packing things up work out what you don’t need and get rid of them rather than moving them to your new house. Moving only what you need helps to ensure that you have less chance of items getting broken.

Be Organised

Being organised throughout the whole moving process helps to make sure that your items are safe and sound; rather than rushing around and doing things last-minute when you’re throwing things in a box and them not being secure. Keep lists of what you’re packing and where things are going which means that the unpacking at the other end is kept as smooth as possible; which is the best possible way to ensure that things are kept in tip-top condition.
