Spending Time Together as a Family  – There is no denying that we’re approaching winter. The clocks went back at the weekend and with it came darker evenings and weather that feels much colder. With less opportunity to get out and about as a family, it can be hard to think of ways to be spending time together as a family in Winter. The good news is, there are plenty of ways to keep everyone entertained.

Spending Time Together as a Family

One thing that we have found is that using technology helps to keep kids interested – Yes, board games sat around the dining table can work but kids can lose interest quickly and simply want to be back on their phones enjoying the tech they have access to. Using websites and playing online games lets kids get their technology fix, but also for you to spend time as a family – the great news is that there are plenty of websites that offer online gaming fun, so finding something that suits shouldn’t be too hard.

Create a Challenge

One thing kids love is to be in competition with both you and each other. We recently found the Solitaire card game website and although it is mostly solo games, our family has got right into it – wanting to do better than each other. This is a massive win for us because it means that kids are spending time online playing card games which is definitely good for their number skills – and it also means they’re not just chatting to their friends on social media the whole time – win, win!

It isn’t just the children that have gotten into these games – being able to play FreeCell online has been a massive source of entertainment for us over recent days. It’s something we used to play on our computers before the days of 24/7 internet and being able to play and reminisce about the good old days has been really enjoyable. We’ve actually played a couple of games together as a couple – we’re able to play without being in a constant competition like the kids! However, if you were in competition then the fact it tracks score and moves is a great incentive!

Spending time together as a family in winter doesn’t have to be impossible – yes, you might have fewer days out but cosy winter days in can be just as lovely. Just get some games set up, or a bit of competition with games online – get some snacks in and encourage the kids to get involved, you’ll all be having family fun together before you know it!
