We all know that children cost a lot of money and trying to save in this financial climate can feel impossible. However, there are some ways you can save money when you have a 4-year-old to build up those savings and not lose out too much on doing all the things you would normally do.

The first thing you should do as a family is to work out exactly what is coming in and what is going out. Making a list of all your finances helps you see exactly what you are spending and where. You need to make sure you keep enough by to provide everything your family needs before you can set aside a budget for saving.

Work Out Your Bills

You need to look at what bills are essential bills such as food, electricity, rent etc and then look at what bills are luxury items and look what things you could cut back on each month to save some money. When looking at how to save money when you have a 4-year-old you need to factor in all the things you may need over the coming year, they grow quickly and may need new clothes, shoes and school uniforms during this period – organising these in advance gives you a chance to look out for bargains as the year progresses rather than trying to buy it all at once.

Budget Your Month

Once you have done all this you can set a budget for how much money you have left each month once your most essential bills are paid. Every little bit helps when saving but life doesn’t always go to plan so some months you may be able to put aside more than others.

You may also be entitled to some benefits and financial help which can help boost your family income and allow you to have more money over the month this will depend on your income and will vary for each family.

Save Money

A quick and easy way to save some money each month is your food bill. Ensure you really look at what you are spending each will, work out a meal plan and only buy what you need that week so that things aren’t being wasted. It can also help to start shopping online if you are prone to impulse buying and picking up things in the supermarket that you don’t really need. Look out for vouchers and cashback offers as these can help you save money too!
