If you’re going on a long train journey then it can be a good excuse to catch up on some relaxation and take in the sights as you travel. However, if you want your journey to be relaxing and peaceful you should get organised in advance – here are some tips for train travel to make things easier.

Give Yourself Time

Train stations can be really busy and big places and the last thing you want to be doing is huffing and puffing as you rush to your platform. Instead, give yourself plenty of time to get to the station and find where you need to be. Platform numbers and even times can be subject to change, so getting there early gives you a chance to suss out the situation and work out what you need to do to travel easily.

Get an App

Apps like The Train Line are really useful – they give you live journey updates and often you can even see how busy the train is and what the quieter carriages are like to be. Being able to view the platform numbers is good too because it means that you can give the person meeting you at the other end a solid idea of where to meet you, helping to make life easier for everyone. It especially helps with train journeys when you have to change trains – because you’ll have a solid idea of where you need to be when trying to locate your next train.

Pack a Charger

Lots of trains have plug sockets these days (you can book a seat with one if you want) so you can charge your phone as you go – take headphones with you and you’ll be able to listen to podcasts  or browse social media to help the journey go quickly – just remember to connect to the train wifi or keep an eye on your data usage!

Take The Essentials

Think about what else you might need for the journey – something to drink, a couple of snacks and even some magazines are generally a good idea for helping to keep yourself entertained and ensure that the journey doesn’t become too dull and boring. If you have a small crafting hobby then you could even take this with – just keep in mind that the train could get very busy & won’t always be smooth running so you might not be able to do this the whole journey.
