It is hard to describe the UK heat to someone that hasn’t been here – because there are places throughout the world that have a higher temperature than the UK. However, we’re really not set up for dealing with hot weather and with a heatwave seemingly on the card – here are some tips for surviving the hot weather.

Dress For Comfort

If there is one thing that this time of year demands, it’s dressing for comfort. Yes – it can feel nice to be stylish and fashionable, but at the end of the day when the temperatures hit 34/35 the most important thing is dressing in a way that is comfortable. Lots of loose clothing and plenty of sun cream should definitely be on the agenda for the day – don’t be afraid of getting your arms and legs out, they deserve to be cool too – just make sure you keep them covered in sun cream to avoid getting burnt.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

One of the things that can make us most miserable in this heat is not being able to sleep. Take some time to do what you can to help yourself have the best possible chance of a decent night’s rest – keep the curtains closed in your bedroom and put on your fan on for a little while before you go to sleep to help bring down the temperature of the room. Get rid of your thick bedding and swap for sheets – you can even put pillowcases in the freezer for a bit before you go to bed if you want to be extra cool.

Prepare The House

Closing the curtains before you go to bed to prevent the hot sun from streaming through the windows in the morning and heating up the house is a good idea. Windows open and curtains closed is generally a great way to keep things cool. Invest in some fans but also cool snacks – ice lollies, frozen yoghurt and a variety of drinks so you stay hydrated are essential.

If you have any tips for surviving the hot weather we’d love to hear them
