For many of us saving up to have home renovations carried out is a big deal, after all it’s not every day that we’re going to be able to afford to have projects like this undertaken. It is all well and good saving up and getting the go-ahead for any big home project to take place; but when is a good time to have this work carried out?

Avoid School Holidays

Although it isn’t always possible, having work carried out during term time is often recommended if you have a household with children in. With children being out of the way for most of the day it means that you have less to worry about in terms of keeping them safe – and out of the way of the people carrying out the work.

Do You Work From Home?

If you work from home and you’re having work done then it could be a good time to seek somewhere else to work – or work from the office for a few days. This will depend on the renovations you are having done and what tasks you need to for work – and whether any work from the building project will disrupt this.

Minimising Disruption

Any building project like this is going to be a little disruptive but choosing a time when this can be minimised can make life easier. For example, can the children stay with a family member for a couple of days or could you all go away for the weekend and let the builders get on with things? Of course, there will be times when that isn’t possible and that is okay, you’ll work around it and everything will work out. However, speaking to them in advance means that you know what to expect and what you can do to make life easier for everyone as the work takes place.

Speak to the Company Carrying out the Work

The best thing you can do is speak to the building company that you are working with and your architect about the project and how they envision things working. There are likely to be days when messier or noisier work needs to be carried out. Having an idea of when this is likely to be or asking them to let you know in advance means that you can plan for things like work, children and even pets to be taken care of and keep things easier for everyone.

If you have any tips for having work done on your home we’d love you to share them below.
